7-Card Stud

Rules of Play

  • Ante: All players put in an initial bet, known as the “ante.”

  • Third Street: Each player is dealt three cards, two hidden hole cards and one face up. The player with the lowest face-up card starts the betting with a small “bring-in” bet or a full small bet.

  • Fourth Street: Another card is dealt face up to each player. The player with the highest poker value of the face-up cards starts the betting.

  • Fifth Street: A fifth card is dealt face up followed by a round of betting. From this point, the betting limits typically double.

  • Sixth Street: Each player receives another face-up card and another round of betting follows.

  • Seventh Street (or the River): The final card is dealt face down. Players now have three hidden cards and four showing. The player with the best showing hand begins the final round of betting.

  • Showdown: If there are multiple players remaining after the last betting round, a showdown occurs. Players reveal their hands, and the best five-card poker hand wins the pot.

Remember that in Seven Card Stud, there are no community cards like in Texas Hold’em or Omaha. Each player must use the seven cards they are dealt to make the best possible five-card hand. The standard poker hand rankings apply.
